Iraqi Revolutionary Command Council's Decrees.
Decree No. 840.
In accordance with para (1), article 42 of the constitution. The Revolutionary Command Council has decided in its session held on 4/11/86 the following:
First: Article No.225 of the penal code - law No. (111) 1969 is to be amended to read as follows:
1) Life imprisonment and confiscation of transferable and non transferable assets for anyone acting on his behalf, the RCC, A1-Ba'ath Party, the National Assembly or the government. The death penalty for anyone who deliberately slanders or insults the above with intent to incite public opinion against the government.
2) Imprisonment for not more than seven years or a fine for anyone who slanders or insults the judiciary system, the armed forces, any such public authorities , or governmental departments and institutions.
Second: Article 226 to be cancelled from the penal code.
Third: This law shall be enforced from its publication date in official gazzette.
